5 best places to visit on the Australian East Coast
The Australian east coast... A paradise for young backpackers and travel enthusiasts from all over the world. A lot of sunny days chilled out people and so much variety in the matter of nature and landscapes. Absolutely incredible!
But of course there are a couple places that just stand out and you must visit them on your travels along the Australian east coast. There is no excuse 😉
Great Ocean Road
The first thing that has to be on your list is the world famous Great Ocean Road. It basically is an almost 250 km coastal road, which is absolutely stunning. You will pass various viewpoints as well as famous beaches like „Bells Beach" (World Surf Tour spot) on your way. It is a very scenic drive you gonna experience. It will definitely leave a mark behind but in a good way. For me, it is a place where I could easily see myself living in the future...
Fraser Island
The world's biggest sand island! Fraser Island is such a fantastic place with lots of highlights. You can visit an old shipwreck (Maheno Wreck), swim in the „Champagne Pools" or explore the beautiful Lake McKenzie in the middle of the jungle. Most people hire a 4wheel drive or book a guided tour. Driving along the 75-mile beach is absolutely incomparable and such an adventure. You will never forget the magnificent views. Promised!
Byron Bay
This small hippie village is one of the places to be on the Australian east coast. This village has a very special vibe to it, which attracts many young people from all over the world. Everyone wants to visit Byron Bay, especially in summer time. Crazy parties, great surfing spot and a typical Australian beach life. What else could you want?
Whitsundays
The Whitsunday Islands are the Nr. 1 attraction on the Australian east coast. And that is not just my opinion. Literally, everyone wants to see this. And I tell you, you HAVE to see this. The Whitsundays include one of the world's most famous beaches (Whitehaven Beach) and various unbelievably beautiful islands. It is a mecca for sailors and animal lovers. From the best sunsets and rare animals like sea eagles and humpback whales. There is something to see for everyone.
Wilsons Promontory
The last point on the list is kind of an insider tip. Not that many people know the Wilsons Promontory National Park. I could have taken the Daintree Rainforest, The Great Barrier Reef, Surfers Paradise, Sydney or as the fifth highlight to see, but trust me, Wilsons Prom is something you have to put on your list. This national park is truly beautiful. It is something for everyone, who wants to experience the true Australian Southeast. Animal and nature lovers will not get enough of it. You almost won't find any other tourists on your way and, if you take your time, this stunning piece of nature will absolutely blow you away.
At the end of the day, I can only say, that there is so much more to explore on the east coast of Australia and it is really hard to pick the top 5, but the mentioned ones can maybe give you a small insight on what is waiting for you 😉
